Pius XII. - The Pope who was silent
Pius XII. - The Pope who was silent (original title Hitler's Pope ) is a critical biography of Pius XII written by John Cornwell . It was published by Viking Press in 1999.
The book criticizes the actions of Pius XII. (secular name Eugenio Pacelli) during World War II and describes his career, from childhood to death. Particular attention is paid to the 1933 Reich Concordat and its position on National Socialism .
criticism
The book is very controversial among Catholics as well as historians, since Cornwell makes the claim, among other things, that Pacelli was to blame for the outbreak of the First World War through the Serbian Concordat . Cornwell is also accused of serious translation errors. They are said to have multiplied when the book was translated into German.
