history

The brewery was founded in 1597. In the 1930s 40 people were employed and around 20,000 hl of beer were brewed. After the Second World War , the brewery was nationalized and in 1960 incorporated into the South Bohemian Breweries České Budějovice . In 1989 the brewery was privatized again and in 1991, after bankruptcy, sold to the entrepreneurs Stanislav Bernard and Josef Vávra. After initial economic problems, the brewery gained more and more importance. While 26,000 hl of beer were brewed in 1991, in 1999 it was already 116,091 hl. In 2000, the company was converted into a public limited company and the Belgian brewery Duvel Moortgat joined the brewery. Duvel Moortgat holds 50% of the shares, the entrepreneurs Bernard and Vávra each 25%.
