Pizzofalcone (also Monte Echia or Monte di Dio ) is the name of a hill in the city of Naples . It is located in the district of San Ferdinando directly on the sea.

history

Around 700 BC The Greek city of Parthenope was founded here and on the small island of Megaride, which lies directly on the coast . Parthenope was the first city in what is now Naples, around 500 BC. A second Greek city was founded in the northwest of Parthenope, called Neapolis ("New City"). From then on, Parthenope was also called Paleopolis ("Old City"). In ancient times, the city on the hill was abandoned over time. The fallow land was used as arable land in the Middle Ages.

In the 16th century, the aristocratic upper class of Naples began building houses on the hill. Not only do you have a view of large parts of the city and the sea, the hill was also - and is today - near the Royal Palace. Via Monte, lined with villas, became one of the most elegant residential streets in Naples in the 18th century. Today there are both residential buildings and official buildings on the Pizzofalcone.
