The church of San Ferdinando , named after the district

San Ferdinando is one of the 30 districts ( Quartieri ) of the southern Italian port city of Naples . It bears the serial number "1" and is part of the Municipalità 1 administrative district of the city. The district is located in the south of the city on the Gulf of Naples and belongs to the historic center ( Centro Storico ) as well as to the socio-economically medium-rich districts of Naples .

Geography and demography

San Ferdinando borders on the neighboring districts of Montecalvario , San Giuseppe , Porto and Chiaia .

San Ferdinando is 0.92 square kilometers and had 18,404 inhabitants in 2011 (census). In 1961, fifty years earlier, the district with 36,205 inhabitants still had almost twice as high a population density.
