Pyotr Michailowitsch Kapzewitsch ( Russian : Пётр Михайлович Капцевич ; * 1772 - † July 3, 1840 ) was a Russian general of the artillery who served under Tsar Alexander I and distinguished himself in particular in the Napoleonic Wars .

Life

Kapzewitsch commanded the 7th Infantry Division during Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812 and distinguished himself in the Battle of Smolensk (August 17/18, 1812) and the Battle of Borodino (September 7, 1812).

In the campaigns of 1813 he commanded the 10th Russian Infantry Corps, distinguished himself particularly in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig (October 16/19, 1813) and was awarded the Order of Saint George, second class , by the Tsar .

In 1814 he led the corps of General Langeron until the capture of Soissons , then an infantry division.

In 1819 he was appointed commander of a corps in Siberia and an honorary ataman of the Siberian Cossacks. From 1822 to 1827 he was governor of West Siberia with the rank of general .

From 1828 he commanded a corps of the Siberian Landwehr.

His grave can be found near the church in Nikolskoje, Sakmara region, Orenburg oblast .
