Ayutla plan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ayutla plan was passed on March 1, 1854 in Ayutla de los Libres and aimed at the removal of the now eight-time President of Mexico, Antonio López de Santa Anna .

The liberal Juan Álvarez Benítez and some opponents of Santa Anna accused him of repression, the abolition of representative democracy and, because of the sale of Mexican territory in the Gadsden purchase , of treason. Well-known supporters of the plan included Benito Juárez and Ignacio Comonfort . However, Santa Anna was initially able to assert himself and did not resign from the office of president for the last time until August 1855, whereupon he went into exile in Cuba again.
