Hamlet of Planalp

The hamlet of Planalp, also known as Husstatt , is an old Walser settlement that used to be inhabited all year round. Today it is still used as a mountain pasture by around five farmers. It also has a large number of holiday homes, a restaurant and a mountain house with single and family rooms and dormitories.

Alm

The stafel

The alp has the following table

  • Ausweid, this is the bottom panel
  • Greesgi, the middle table
  • Gummi, Rinderbiel and Obristen (also called Ober Stafel ) together form the top three stafel

organization

The alp is organized as a cooperative. She has 380 ½ cow rights .

Management

The alpine management is currently as follows:

  • The first thing to do in spring is the Greesgi . This is mostly the case in early June. There is grazing for 4–6 weeks, depending on the feed.
  • Then the different alpine farmers split up and we move on to the stafel Gummi, Rinderbiel and Obristen. They stay there for about 5 weeks.
  • Afterwards they all come back together to the Stafel Greesgi to stay there for another 4–5 weeks.
  • The last thing to do is pull into the bottom stave, the evisceration. There the alpine season comes to an end after another 10 to 14 days.

At the beginning of summer the evisceration is used by the Alp Rotschalp.

In the past, the alpine farmers did not split up to go to the top three bars, but all went from bar to bar together. As a result, the families were forced to have their own building on each pillar. Many ruins still bear witness to this today .

history

It is assumed that the Planalp was settled no later than the Gallo-Roman period (around 58 BC - 450 AD). Many place names are traced back to Roman roots.

In the winters of 1942 and 1943, large avalanches went down from Tanngrindel to Brienz. As a result, extensive avalanche barriers were built.

Myths and legends

Abplanalp

According to legend, the settlement was completely destroyed by an avalanche sometime between 1000 and 1100 AD. Only one infant survived in its cradle, which was found floating on Lake Brienz. But since nobody knew which family name the child had, it was given the family name Abplanalp (from Planalp).

The raid

Once the alp was attacked by the Obwaldners. The first fights took place at Mitlesten (place name in the Stafel Greesgi). According to the story, the dairyman was drowned in the Käskessi. In the meantime, a guardian boy was able to rush down to the hamlet of Planalp to get help. When the Obwalden saw the many Planal residents, they fled back towards Obwalden. However, they were overtaken by colonels and all killed. There are still two places that testify to this attack. In Mitlesten there is a place called “Mordsstiie”, and below the Brienzer Rothorn there is a plain called “Mordbode” (ground where murder took place).
