A tarpaulin (also known as a tarpaulin , blahe or tarpaulin ) is a textile covering or cloth , the edge of which is reinforced by a piping . Tarpaulins can also be made of plastic .

Advantages and possible uses

Plans tend to be

  • weatherproof
  • durable
  • flexible to use

They are often used as advertising media on company buildings, rental properties or, more directly, as tents and covers on semi-trailers or motor vehicles . Motor boats and sailing ships are also covered with the light and weatherproof protection. Tarpaulins on trucks are lighter than fixed bodies and can be easily removed for loading and unloading if necessary.

Tarpaulins are also used for attachment and privacy protection. A tarpaulin is also used for sun and rain protection on boats, vehicles, terraces or gardens.

Bags made from truck tarpaulin

Hard-wearing tarpaulins, for example in truck quality, can be converted into carrier bags. A number of designers and manufacturers have dedicated themselves to the production of so-called tarpaulin bags.

However, tarpaulin made of (soft) PVC always contains plasticizers , especially phthalates , which can be harmful to health. Tarpaulins made of polyester or polyethylene are not affected.
