The Planorboidea are a superfamily of the water lung snails (Basommatophora). They are characterized, among other things, by their left-hand winding housings and long, thin feelers. In addition, molecular genetic evidence suggests that this group is closely related.
There are two families that also occur in Central Europe, the
- Plate snails (Planorbidae)
- Bladder snails (Physidae)
In some cases, however, the two families were given the rank of their own superfamily and the common taxonomic unit was then raised to the level of a partial order (Infraordo) Planorboinei (Planorboinei H. Nordsieck, 1993).
