Platinum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Platinides are chemical compounds of platinum in which it is present as an anion Pt 2− . With gold, it is the only transition element that can exist as an anion.

Extraction and presentation

Platinides can be formed through direct reaction with another, more electropositive element. These only come about at high temperatures (700 ° C).

Cesium and platinum react at 700 ° C to form cesium platinum .

properties

The platinum ion is counted among the pseudochalcogenes . The platinides have an ionic structure and crystallize in various structures. For example, cesium platinum has a Ni 2 In structure, while barium platinum crystallizes into the structure of nickel arsenide .
