The flat beetles (Cucujidae) are a family of beetles that can be found worldwide.

features

The beetles are 6 to 25 millimeters long and are bright red, yellow or black in color. They have an abdomen, the sides of which are largely parallel. The head is slightly triangular, with straight, 11-part antennae and large mandibles . The pronotum is narrower than the head.

Way of life

Both the beetles and the larvae live under the bark of trees.

Systematics

The Cucujidae family previously included the subfamilies Laemophloeinae , Silvanainae and Passandrinae , but these are now separate families.
