The Platz der Deutschen Einheit is a small park in Darmstadt .
The approximately 250 meter long and 70 meter wide park was built in the first half of the 20th century. The “Memorial to German Unity” by Hans Aeschbacher is located in the northeast part of the park . In the center of the park is an abstract plastic sculpture.
The Bahnhofshotel (Darmstadt) from 1912 by Eugen Seibert is on the northern edge of the park . In the north-west the park borders on the listed Darmstadt main station . Since 1957 the triangular area has been called “Platz der Deutschen Einheit”.
The area was redeveloped in the 2000s.
Monument protection
The mosaic paving in front of the main train station and on the sidewalk between the train station and Rheinstrasse are worth preserving; likewise the memorial and the sculpture.
