Hans Aeschbacher
Hans Aeschbacher (born January 18, 1906 in Zurich ; † January 27, 1980 in Uster ) was a Swiss painter and sculptor .
Life
Hans Aeschbacher was born in Zurich in 1906. He trained as a printer before starting to paint as an autodidact . The subjects of his paintings were landscape and portraiture until the 1930s . He was married to Hanny Fries for a short time .
From 1936 onwards, Aeschbacher devoted himself increasingly to sculpture. His first sculptures are still figurative and mostly made of terracotta and plaster . Aeschbacher's first stone sculpture was created in 1938. After 1945 his sculpture became abstract , his sculptures were now made of stone or metal. In the 1950s, his sculptures became more monumental. In 1953, with his first lava sculpture, a new creative phase came in Hans Aeschbacher's artistic work.
Aeschbacher had a few solo exhibitions in the 1950s. In 1958 and 1964 his works were shown at the Venice Biennale . In 1959 Aeschbacher participated in documenta II and in 1964 in documenta III in Kassel . In 1947 he was awarded the Conrad Ferdinand Meyer Prize . Hans Aeschbacher worked as an artist until shortly before his death. He died in January 1980 in Russikon in the Swiss canton of Zurich . In 1989 the Roswitha Haftmann Modern Art gallery in Zurich showed sculptures.
Silvio Mattioli was a master student of Aeschbacher.
