Groundsman is a job title.

Groundsman is neither a special training occupation nor a protected job title. Areas of application for grounds attendants are public or privately operated sports or leisure facilities . In addition to outdoor sports facilities, facilities where grounds attendants are employed can also be linked to indoor sports areas. The tasks of a groundskeeper usually include the coordination and monitoring of a sports facility, its management , professional maintenance and care of the facility, the preparation of the sports facility for play, for example marking the lines on the sports fields with the help of a chalk cart and the maintenance of the ground and lawn . The areas of responsibility can vary greatly depending on the nature and scope of a sports facility. Occasionally, groundskeepers on public facilities, preferably in amateur sports , are authorized to make the decision about parking closures on behalf of the sports authorities in order to protect a lawn, for example for weather reasons.

Groundsmen are usually employed by municipalities or commissioned by a sports club. Volunteer men or women can also work as groundskeepers on sports facilities of smaller clubs or in rural areas in the amateur sector.

The activity of the groundskeeper requires manual skills, horticultural competence as well as organizational and coordination skills.
