Play the Game is a song by British rock band Queen that appeared on the 1980 album The Game . It's also featured on the band's Greatest Hits album . It was written by Freddie Mercury .
At the beginning the song contains notes that were generated with an Oberheim OB-X synthesizer . This is remarkable because Queen previously recorded all albums without a synthesizer and also wrote this on the albums.
Mercury wrote the song for his former lover after the two broke up.
