The place Playa Santiago (also Playa de Santiago) is located in the municipality of Alajeró on La Gomera . The original small fishing village experienced its first boom from the beginning of the 20th century through extensive cultivation of agricultural products such as bananas and tomatoes, which also led to an expansion of local industry and infrastructure with canning factories and ports. With the decline of agriculture in the 1990s, there was a reorientation towards tourism. In Playa Santiago there is a pebble beach made of lava rock, as La Gomera is of volcanic origin. The ocean currents , however, hardly allow swimming in the sea, as it is far too dangerous for inexperienced swimmers due to the undercurrent. At the other end of the harbor there is a row of shops. The actual town center lies between the mountains. A hiking trail leads from the village over the ridge above the harbor.

Adjacent to the location on the ridge Hotel Jardin Tecina, which by a carved into the rock, only by hotel guests with card room keys usable elevator is connected to the valley, is situated at the end of this village, which belongs to the hotel sea water swimming pool with pool bar and adjoining Restaurant, which can also be used by guests not belonging to the hotel during the stated opening times.

The rock face offers numerous seabirds on the island a good nesting and breeding opportunity, especially the yellow-billed shearwaters , whose calls sound like the screaming of babies, as well as terns and bald eagles . Occasionally dolphins have been spotted off the coast .
