Playa de la Arena belongs to the municipality of Santiago del Teide in the west of Tenerife and is a tourist retort town that has emerged and grown in recent decades , in which numerous well-off foreign residents (mainly English and German) have found a holiday home, second home or retirement home.

Playa de la Arena, which has now grown together with Puerto de Santiago to the north and Los Gigantes even further north, is known for its black beaches. The Playa de la Arena in the north gave the place its name. Upmarket apartment complexes that are aimed at an upscale and affluent public crowd around the beach and the coast.
