Los Gigantes is a district of the municipality of Santiago del Teide , in the west of Tenerife . The touristic place is known for its steep coast, which offers its visitors from land and sea a spectacular sight and is called Acantilados de los Gigantes . At this point the rocks drop vertically up to 450 meters into the sea.
Los Gigantes has a high proportion of foreigners. In 2006 over 3000 British and Irish lived there. Of the 900 Germans living in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, most were registered in Los Gigantes or Playa de la Arena. Many of the foreign residents live on the island all year round, have bought real estate or are entrepreneurs.
The high season here is November to February.
Sightseeing
Los Gigantes can be reached from land via the TF 47 coastal road. The place is one kilometer north of Puerto de Santiago on the way to Tamaimo . From the place you can reach the rock walls on foot and come to a small plateau from which the visitor gets a breathtaking view of the rock cliff. In the village there is also a small beach right next to the small harbor, the approximately 200 meter long black and fine sand Playa de los Guíos , surrounded by several bars, souvenir shops and restaurants.
Another way to see the cliffs and get an even more spectacular impression of the cliffs is from the sea. A number of local operators offer boat trips to Los Gigantes on sailors, motor boats or catamarans . These tours are often combined with the observation of dolphins and pilot whales , which live just off the coast. A good starting point for such tours is, for example, the port in Los Cristianos .
