The Plectopylidae are a family of snails from the suborder of the land snails (Stylommatophora). The recent representatives are native to South and Southeast Asia. The family contains almost 100 recent species.

features

The housings are very flattened to almost flat spiral. They are right or left wound with up to 7 turns. In cross-section, the windings are usually round or almost round. The mouth can have lamellae, plicae or calli. Most of the time, the mouth is very oblique to the winding plane or falls from the winding plane. In the hermaphroditic genital apparatus, the penis is clearly divided into two by a narrowing. The upper part has an inner wall with a regular pattern of knots. Each node has a central depression in which a small calcareous thorn sits. The lower part, however, has weak, irregular folds. The epiphallus is rather short with a thickened lower part and a rather thread-shaped upper part. The spermatic duct is relatively long and runs freely. The oviduct and the vagina are about the same length. The stem of the spermathec is thin and thickened at the base.

Geographical distribution and way of life

Today's representatives of the family are from North India, Tibet, South and Central China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and South Japan ( Ryukyu Islands).

Systematics

Schileyko (1999) lists six genera under the family.
