coat of arms

Seal of Jordan Pleskow

The coat of arms is usually described after a seal of Jordan Pleskow on a document from 1408: In a quatrefoil composed of four circular arcs and four points, a small shield with a protruding head with points upwards leans on both sides, including a six-petalled rose. Above the shield the helmet with a crown and leaves on the tips of stems in place of the helmet cover. The crest is apparently a sideways-looking bearded head, which is also known as a Russian head . The coat of arms suggests an origin of the family in the (in German) named Russian city of Pleskau ( Pskow ).

Monuments

The coat of arms of the mayor and head of the Marienkirche Jakob Pleskow († 1381) hung on the inside of the third northern choir pillar of the church. Two more Pleskow shields, at least those of Mayor Jordan Pleskow († 1425) and Councilor Gottfried Pleskow († 1451), hung on the north side of the first south pillar, where Jacob von Melle still recorded them. They were probably removed in the late 18th century, as was the gravestone of Mayor Jakob Pleskow († 1483) in the chancel. The numerous other grave slabs of the Pleskow family in the Lübeck churches are partially described, but not preserved.
