Nerve plexuses in the human abdomen

The superior hypogastric plexus is a plexus of nerves made up of nerve fibers from the sympathetic nervous system . It is located directly in front of the spine , at the transition from the fifth lumbar vertebra to the sacrum, i.e. at the entrance to the small pelvis. Its fibers, together with other sympathetic and parasympathetic fibers of the inferior hypogastric plexus, supply the organs of the small pelvis, especially the urinary bladder , genital organs and rectum .
