A pneumohydraulic pressure intensifier (also known as a pressure multiplier ) is a piston pump in which compressed air acts on a piston surface that is connected to a significantly smaller piston in an oil-filled cylinder .

functionality

The difference in the piston areas of the air and oil pistons creates the transmission ratio between the drive compressed air and the output oil pressure. A movement reversal in the end positions of the piston stroke generates the stroke movement and thus the oil delivery. The pressure intensifier can be single-acting (one oil piston) or double-acting (two oil pistons).

properties

Typical of this type of pump is the relatively low delivery rate with a very high oil pressure. The special feature of the pressure intensifier is that the oil pressure is maintained when the pump is at a standstill. The movement reversal in the stroke end positions can be controlled mechanically, pneumatically or electronically. Transmission ratios between drive pressure and output oil pressure of 1: 100 are achieved.
