Podarcis lilfordi rodriquezi , sometimes referred to as the Ratas lizard in German, is an extinct subspecies of the Balearic lizard ( Podarcis lilfordi ).
The lizard was on the Isla Ratas, a small neighboring island of Illa del Rei in the Bay of Mahon (Menorca) endemic . The type epithet honors the Spanish botanist Juan Joaquín Rodríguez y Femenías , who collected the holotype in 1903 .
description
The males reached a snout-anus length of 76.7 millimeters, the females 62.5 millimeters. The dark green colored tail was about 1¾ times as long as the body. The animals were built quite robustly with a relatively large head and short legs. The color of the back varied from olive brown and green-blue to dark olive and green. The flanks and legs were green with a grayish tinge. The color of the abdomen ranged from reddish to yellowish.

The subspecies was last sighted in 1950. For the new construction of the port of Maó on Menorca , large areas were blasted with dynamite and the living space was completely destroyed. Today only four copies exist in museum collections. Lorenz Müller's paratype from 1927 has been destroyed.
