history

The name of the inn is derived from the surname of the fisherman Christian Pohlenz from Leipe, who settled in the area around today's Pohlenzschänke around 1765. Pohlenz is derived from the Sorbian / Wendish language and means "flooded meadow". Presumably, fishermen, farmers and hunters passing by were already entertained at that time. In the 1780s, his son Friedrich Pohlenz built a log house with a taproom and was officially licensed in 1786 .

At the end of the 19th century, Friedrich Pohlenz owned the inn. Around 1896 the restaurant received a hall extension . The murals in the building were created between 1902 and 1905 by the Dresden painter Heynemann, who received free board and lodging in return. Due to the onset of tourism at this time, it had numerous guests, but there were no overnight accommodations for them. In 1924, the inn was moved back about 50 meters on alder rolls. A brick building with a lookout tower was then erected on the newly created square and opened in May 1925.

1932 Pohlenzschänke the Lübbenauer Oskar Callin was leased . He ran the restaurant together with his wife and two daughters until 1947. Then the Pohlenzschänke came to Bernhard and Elise Fittkau, who later bought the restaurant. At the end of the 1950s, the restaurant was connected to the power grid, but the state only granted the application because the Fittkaus undertook to transport the electricity pylons themselves. From the 1960s, the Pohlenzschänke was taken over by the HO Weimar and used by them as a children's holiday camp until 1990 . After the end of the GDR, the restaurant was leased and continued in 1991 by Karl-Heinz Starick from Lehde . Joachim Fittkau, who was still the owner of the Pohlenzschänke, finally transferred it to his daughter Stephanie Fittkau on January 1, 2008, who still runs the Pohlenzschänke today.
