The Point Hennequin ( French Pointe Hennequin ) is a headland on the south coast of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies on the east bank of Admiralty Bay and forms the eastern boundary of the entrance to Martel and Mackellar Inlet .
The name was given by participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot , who carried out measurements of Admiralty Bay in 1909. It is named after the Belgian geologist Néoclès Charles Auguste Émile Hennequin (1838–1902), member of the Société Royale Belge de Géographie . Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations converted the French name into English in the 1920s.
