The Pole of Inaccessibility Station ( Russian : Полюс недоступности, transcribed as Poljus Nedostupnosti ) was a Soviet research station in East Antarctica , the remains of which are located at the eponymous Pole of Inaccessibility .

The station was located at 3800  m and is 463 km from the geographic South Pole and around 600 km from the former Soviet research station Sovetskaya .

The research facility was set up in 1958 for meteorological observations and measurements as part of the third Soviet Antarctic expedition in the International Geophysical Year and operated from December 14th to 26th, 1958. It consisted of three huts, including a small shelter for four people and simple structures for radio and measurement systems as well as electronics. The observation and research work carried out in the vicinity of the station was largely carried out from laboratory vehicles.

Today, apart from a bust of Lenin and a memorial plaque, there is only one building left of the station , but it has been almost completely buried by the snow. The site is now protected by the Antarctic Treaty as No. 4 Historic Site .
