Poldark is a 29-part British television series run by the BBC . It is an adaptation of the Poldark novel series by Winston Graham .
action
British soldier Ross Poldark returns to Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolutionary War. He longingly hopes to see his great love Elizabeth again. However, he has already been pronounced dead, and Elizabeth is now engaged to his cousin. Ross Poldalk also learns that his father has passed away and that his property is half ruined. Despite all this, Ross Poldark wants to stay in Cornwall and put his country back in order. Since he needs a kitchen help, he hires Demelza Carne, but comes across some resistance in the village.
background
Robin Ellis took over the leading role of Ross Poldark . Angharad Rees plays Demelza and Jill Townsend plays Elizabeth. Poldark premiered on BBC One from 1975 to 1977. At that time, 15 million viewers tuned in to the series. The show was so popular in Cornwall that churches postponed their evening services.
However, the author of the novels Winston Graham was not very enthusiastic about the series. He particularly objected to the television character Demelza. He found this to be too slutty . So he tried to stop the broadcast of the series, but had no editorial influence on the series. It was not until the second season that he was able to work on the series.
Seven novels from the twelve-part Poldark novel series were made into films. In total, Poldark had 29 episodes in two seasons and was sold to 40 different countries.
In 2015, the books on which the television series is based were filmed again. In the remake of the same name , main actor Robin Ellis has a guest role as judge Reverend Halse.
