Polewali Mandar is a government district ( Kabupaten ) on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi . The district is part of the Sulawesi Barat Province . 396,253 inhabitants live here (2010).
Mandar is an indigenous group and forms the majority of the population. There are also Bugis , Javaner and Toraja . The Attorney General Baharuddin Lopa comes from this region . Polewali Mandar is also known as the place of origin of the Sandeq a Prau type, which is mainly propelled by sails or paddles.
