The Police Corps of the Slovak Republic ( Slovak Policajný zbor Slovenskej republiky , abbr. PZ SR ) is the state police force of Slovakia . It is subordinate to the Slovak Ministry of the Interior and is divided into regional directorates, each with one for the eight Slovakian Kraje , under the state police headquarters. The motto of the corps is Pomáhať a chrániť (Help and Protect). The current police chief has been Milan Lučanský since June 2018 .

The police can be reached on the national emergency number 158 or on the European emergency number 112. The activity of the police is regulated in Law 171/1993 Z. z. regulated.

The Slovak police have the following departments with national responsibility:

  • Criminal Police Department
  • Department of the Order Police
  • Traffic Police Department
  • Railway Police Department
  • Border and Aliens Police Department
  • Property Protection Department
  • Department of ID Cards and Records
  • Department for the Protection of Constitutional Officials
  • Inspection service
  • Special Provision Department of the Presidium (Special Unit, also known as Lynx Commando )

The National Criminal Agency ( Národná kriminálna agentúra in Slovak , abbreviated NAKA) reports directly to the police chief, with a focus on the fight against corruption and organized crime.

The lowest rank used to be rotný (abbreviation rtn., German equivalent of corporal ), but this has not been used since April 1, 1998. All officials with this rank received the rank strážmajster.
