The Polish Hound (Ogar Polski) is a Polish breed of dog recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.2, Standard No. 52 ).

Origin and history

In the breed standard , the history of the breed is traced back to hunting dogs in the 11th century and reference is made to the long history of hunting dogs in Poland. It is also shown that after the Second World War there was no breeding of hunting dogs on the territory of the Polish state and the breeding of the Polish hound began in 1959 in the kennel z Kresów with Polish hunting dogs imported from what is now Belarus. In 1964 a first breed standard was created and in 1966 the breed got the FCI number 52.

description

55 to 65 cm tall and up to 32 kg heavy hound of the Bracke type, black with a reddish brown tinge, dense, thick hair of medium length and dense undercoat. The ears are set low; quite long, lobed.

use

The Polish hound is used in hunting, it is noisy . It is also kept as a family dog, whereby the standard emphasizes its excellent aptitude for this.
