Polska Agencja Prasowa ( PAP ) is the state news agency of the Republic of Poland . It is legally obliged to report on the work of Polish state bodies such as the Sejm and the Senate . It reports to the National Media Council founded in 2016 .
history
On October 31, 1918, some journalists in Cracow and Lviv took over the offices of the former Austrian press agency and founded the Polska Agencja Telegraficzna ( PAT ). A week later it became the news agency of the new Polish government. From 1928 the newsreel Kroniki Filmowe PAT was published.
On September 17, 1939, the management of PAT left Poland; the agency worked first in Paris , then in London . In 1991 it was disbanded.
On March 10, 1944, the pro-Soviet organization Związek Patriotów Polskich founded the Polska Agencja Prasowa (Polpress) in Moscow . In September 1945 their offices moved to Warsaw . In 1990 and 1991, at the time of political change , the agency's management was changed.
Since 1958 it has organized an election for Europe's Sportsman of the Year . In 1999 Dziennik launched Internetowy PAP , the first Internet newspaper in Poland . The National Media Council (RMN) was established in June 2016 under the national conservative government of Poland . Since then he has supervised the PAP in addition to the public media (TVP TVP and radio PR).
