Polish guard company

Polish guard companies were guards in the American occupation forces in Germany. They were founded in May 1945 on the basis of an agreement between the Polish government-in-exile and the US government. They were subordinate to the Americans .

The guard companies wore black-dyed American uniforms with a Poland patch and were responsible for guarding German prisoners of war and American military bases . They consisted of Polish concentration camp prisoners, prisoners of war, forced laborers , refugees from communism in Poland and soldiers from the NSZ -ZJ Holy Cross Brigade. In 1946 the companies numbered around 40,000 men. By December 1947 their number had decreased to 11–12 thousand.

From 1946 to 1951, they guarded the American military base in Herzogenaurach ( Herzo Base ), among other things .
