Herzo Base in the northern part of the Niederndorf district

The Herzo Base (formerly Herbertsacker ) is the youngest district of Herzogenaurach in the Bavarian district of Erlangen-Höchstadt .

location

The 114  hectare former barracks area, which has been called Herzo Base since the American occupation in the post-war years , is located about two kilometers northeast of the heart of Herzogenaurach in the north of the Niederndorf district , right on the border with the Haundorf district .

Immediately to the north of the local part of the flows Bimbach which there 19 fish economically used Weiher fed. In the neighboring Haundorf the Bimbachgraben flows from the northwest .

Due to its slightly exposed location on a prominent hill, which separates the valley of the Bimbach from that of the Middle Aurach , the Herzo Base is the formative sight of the eastern access roads that can be seen from afar.

history

The area was used exclusively agricultural until the 1930s and carried the field names Herbert Sacker . In 1935 the barracks of the German Air Force belonging to the Herzogenaurach Air Base were built there. Due to the distinctive arrangement of the buildings to each other, which can only be seen from the air, they were called the `` Kammbau '' at that time . During the Second World War , the facilities remained almost completely intact. On April 16, 1945, American units took over the barracks and the nearby air base. From the post-war period to the end of the Cold War , various US troops were stationed there and the name Herzo Base became common throughout the greater area. In 1992 the site was returned to the Federal Republic of Germany and rededicated to a commercial site in the following years. A residential area has now also been created there.

Transport links
