Welkenbach is a district of the town of Herzogenaurach in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district in Middle Franconia .

geography

The village forms a closed settlement with Hammerbach to the northwest . The Welkenbach , which is a right tributary of the Mittlerer Aurach , flows through the village , and the Birkenmühlbach flows into the Welkenbach as a left tributary. The place is otherwise directly surrounded by arable land and grassland with a few trees. In the north the corridor is called Sandleite, in the west Kohlstatt and in the southeast Schwelgenberg. The national road 2263 goes according Hammerbach (1,3 km northwest) or after Herzogenaurach (2.7 km south-east).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1348 in the Bamberg Urbar . The defining word of the place name is the Slavic personal name Velek. A person of this name can be accepted as the founder of the settlement. The bishopric was a feudal lord , and since the 14th century Nuremberg patricians have had manorial claims in the place.

At the end of the 18th century there were 7 properties in Welkenbach. The high court was divided. To the left of the Welkenbach she exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Fraischvogteiamt Emskirchen-Hagenbüchach , to the right of the brook the Bamberg Centamt Herzogenaurach . However, Herzogenaurach claimed complete sovereignty until 1796. The state alms office of the imperial city of Nuremberg held the village and community rulership . The landlords were the Bamberg office of Herzogenaurach (1 estate) and the Landesalmosenamt (2 farms, 4 estates).

As part of the community edict, Welkenbach was assigned to the Hammerbach tax district, which was formed in 1811 . It also belonged to the rural community of Hammerbach , which was founded in 1818 .

On January 1, 1972, Welkenbach was incorporated into the city of Herzogenaurach as part of the regional reform .
