Newcastle Courthouse

The Weston County Courthouse in Newcastle , Wyoming was designed by Charles A. Randall and built between 1910 and 1911.

The Beaux Arts style courthouse is Newcastle's most elaborate building and a symbol of the community's prosperity at the time of its construction. The courthouse has a two-story central pavilion supported by paired Ionic columns that support an entablature and pediment. The parapet is decorated with galvanized metal balls with a statue of Justice on the pediment. The building is crowned by an octagonal dome with arched windows.

The construction of the courthouse was fraught with contract difficulties. The first contractor was laid off and replaced by John L. Sundstrom , Oscar Linden , Carl Sjostrum and Robert Linden with experience in the stonemasonry. The work was completed in 1911, in time for a visit in October and a speech by US President William Howard Taft outside the courthouse. In 1953, a three-story wing was added as a war memorial on the west side of the building. The first two floors are made of sandstone and the upper floor is made of brick to match the main building.

The Weston County Courthouse was listed as a structure on the National Register of Historic Places in September 2001 .
