The facilities of the Wehrmacht in the greater Nuremberg area were taken by the advancing 7th US Army towards the end of the Second World War , after the Battle of Nuremberg in April 1945 . These facilities were initially called Nuernberg-Fuerth Enclave , later Nuernberg Post . In 1967 and 1970 the administrative structures of the US Army were restructured again, and the area became a support activity of the Bavarian area. In 1974 the USAREUR MILCOMs (community-like structured units of the US Army) were finally introduced and so the Nuernberg Military Community was brought into being along with many others . These structures were maintained until 1991 when the MILCOMs were dissolved and divided into Area Support Groups (ASG), Base Support Battalions (BSB) and Area Support Teams (AST). The NBG MIL COM was initially a 99th ASG continued. Subordinate to her were BSB s in the areas of the former NBG MIL COM and the communities from Augsburg , Munich , Bad Tölz , Göppingen , Heilbronn , Bamberg and Neu-Ulm . It became the largest ASG in Europe. However, this situation was changed in 1993 , when most of the troops had withdrawn from the Nuremberg area:

Nuremberg itself was sufficient for a BSB and was subordinated to the 100th ASG from Grafenwöhr . As early as 1994 the 416th BSB was dissolved and only became an AST. In 1995 the former NBG MIL COM was completely closed and the properties were returned to German authorities.

By the year 2000, maintained Defense Commissary Agency in the field of Fürth Fronmüller- , Schwabacher and forest road a Commissary . On the site, which had been used by the Reich Labor Service during World War II , there was a grocery store (called PX ), a discotheque, a car dealer and various fast food restaurants - use was reserved for US citizens. After the demolition, a small shopping center , the Phoenix Center , was built on the site . Only one branch each of the fast food chains Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken remained.
