The Polo Argentino ( Argentine polo horse ) is a breed of horses from Argentina that is bred for the game of polo.

Exterior

It can be of all colors and badges . It is a muscular, square-built horse and has an average height of 156 cm. Some horses reach a height of over 180 cm.

interior

The Argentine polo horse is used to play polo and is bred for it. It combines the endurance and tenacity of the Criollo with the speed of the thoroughbred and is ideally suited for the game of polo because of its speed and agility.

Breeding history

Polo has been played in Argentina for more than 120 years, and the horses required for it were bred in the country. Over time, more and more English thoroughbreds were crossed into the native Criollo in order to obtain an animal that was as suitable as possible as a polo pony. Also Quarter Horses and Arabians were bred. The breed Polo Argentino was born . In 1984 the Argentine Association of Polo Pony Breeders (AACCP) was founded. The breed has an open stud book .

The association now has more than 260 members in Argentina, but also in other countries around the world. There are 24,000 registered broodmares and 7700 breeding stallions.
