Polo Montañez

Polo Montañez (actually Fernando Borrego Linares) (born June 5, 1955 in El Brujito , Pinar del Río Province , Cuba ; † November 26, 2002 in Pinar del Río , Cuba) was a Cuban songwriter and singer .

Polo Montañez was born in El Brujito in the province of Pinar del Río , a town about 60 km from Havana . At the age of ten he played congas in his father's band . His nickname was Little Wizard . In 1971 his family moved to Las Terrazas. He worked there during the day as a lumberjack and tractor driver. At night he sang in bars with his six siblings. Only discovered in 1999, he celebrated his greatest success in March 2000 with the first CD Guajiro Natural (the "real farmer") and the song Un montón de Estrellas .

On November 26, 2002, Polo Montañez died at the age of 47 as a result of a traffic accident in Pinar del Río .
