The Marschall-Józef-Piłsudski-Polonia-Bydgoszcz-Stadion ( Polish Stadium Polonii Bydgoszcz im. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego ) is a speedway and football stadium in the Polish city ​​of Bydgoszcz . It seats 20,000 and was inaugurated on August 3, 1924. Between 1935 and 1939 it was called the Józef Piłsudski Stadium . In October 2016, the city council decided to rename the stadium after Marshal Józef Piłsudski again.

Speedway

The Polonia Bydgoszcz club's speedway department holds its races in the Polonia Stadium. In 1995 it was the venue for the Speedway Team World Championships and since 1998 the Speedway Individual Speedway World Championship has been held in the stadium . In 2008, two Grand Prix races were held in the stadium within just one month. The German Grand Prix, which was supposed to be held in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen , had to be canceled due to the defective artificial track. Instead, a second race was held in Bydgoszcz.

Soccer

The club's football department also plays its games in the Polonia Stadium. The team currently plays in the 5th Polish league. In the years 1954–1961 the club played in the Polish Ekstraklasa . During the Second World War , the SG Bromberg played their games in the stadium . On the 80th anniversary of the inauguration, a friendly game between the senior men's teams of Poland and Germany was played in the Polonia Stadium .
