World Polo Championship 2017
The 2017 World Polo Championship took place at the Sydney Polo Club and was won by Argentina. The Sydney Polo Club is the oldest polo club in Australia. It was the eleventh edition of the world championships in polo .
organization
The world championships were awarded directly to the Sydney Polo Club. This is unusual because world championships are usually given to a country. The Sydney Polo Club was able to take part in the tender because it has a unique infrastructure of playing fields and grounds. The Sydney Polo Club was supported by the Australian Polo Federation . The main sponsor was Destination NSW, an organization set up in 2011 by the state of New South Wales to promote tourism and events.
Qualification phase
In 2017, five qualification tournaments were held worldwide. One launch site was allocated for each geographic zone, except for Zone C, Europe, which received two launch sites. The host country Australia and the reigning world champion Chile also received starting places.
