history
The FIP was founded on November 25, 1982 in Buenos Aires . The then President of the Argentine Polo Association, Marcos Uranga, is considered to be the founding father. The founding members were the national polo associations of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, El Salvador, France, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Spain and Zimbabwe.
In 1998 the FIP was recognized by the International Olympic Committee . The FIP then joined the Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF) and the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), signed the World Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and submitted to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the International Court of Sports .
Due to irreconcilable differences between FIP President Patrick Guerrand-Hermès and the leadership of the three largest polo associations Asociación Argentina de Polo AAP (Argentina), United States Polo Association USPA (United States) and Hurlingham Polo Association HPA (United Kingdom), these took place on October 26, 2009 (AAP) and October 27, 2009 (USPA and HPA) from the FIP. At a crisis meeting on November 24, 2009 in Buenos Aires, Patrick Guerrand-Hermes resigned as president and the AAP, the USPA and the HPA returned to the FIP. James Ashton, former FIP ambassador to Australia, was the interim president until a new board was elected in early 2010. After James Ashton in a tragic polo accident on February 14, 2010 in Pattaya, Thailand. died, the Argentine Eduardo Huergo was appointed as his successor on March 9, 2010.
