Polydamas ( Greek Πολυδάμας ) is a figure in Greek mythology . He is the son of Panthoos and Phrontis or pronome and father of Leokritos .
Born the same night as Hector , Polydamas was a level-headed advisor to the Trojans . As a sign interpreter, he recommended retreating after seeing the outcome of the fight between a snake and an eagle. Even after Hector's death, he advised the Helena to be returned . But he also made a name for himself as a fighter and killed Prothoënor , the brother of Arkesilaos , as well as Otos , Mekisteus , Kleon and Eurymachos. According to Dictys , he was killed by Aias , but according to Quintus Smyrnaeus he was only wounded by Aias .
