Polymixis argillaceago is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe owl butterfly family (Noctuidae).
features
butterfly
With a wingspan of 34 to 39 millimeters, the moths belong to the medium-sized owl butterflies. The basic color of the relatively narrow forewings shows mostly yellowish and reddish tones. Sometimes there are also specimens colored gray. The head and thorax are colored like the basic wing color. Kidney and ring flaws are often filled in lighter. The hind wings of the male butterflies are shiny, silky white, and the females are gray. There is no center point.
Caterpillar
Younger caterpillars are green in color and show a conspicuous whitish side stripe. After the fifth molt , they take on a brownish color.
Similar species
Yellowish and reddish colored butterflies are associated with Polymixis subvenusta , Polymixis boursini and Polymixis xanthomista ssp. to confuse hadenina . The gray-colored specimens have a certain resemblance to Polymixis dubia , but their forewings are shorter and wider.

distribution and habitat
The species occurs in south-western Europe as well as in the Maghreb states. It lives in warm, dry, open areas, for example grasslands overgrown with bushes. The altitude ranges from NN to 1400 meters.
Way of life
The moths are nocturnal and live in one generation from September to November. They are very fond of visiting artificial light sources and baits . Forage plants of the caterpillars, which live from late autumn onwards, are herbaceous plants. The species overwinters as a caterpillar.
