The Polyt V is a tow plane from the Danish aviation science group Polyteknisk Flyvegruppe , which was designed purely for aircraft tow . The prototype first flew in 1970.

History and construction

The Polyt V (also Polyt 5 ) was developed by six Danish students under the direction of Helge Petersen at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Lyngby . The construction was carried out by 20 students from the Polyteknisk Flyvegruppe (PFG), who can be compared to a German " Akaflieg ".

The goal was to develop an aircraft that was optimized for glider tow . The single-seat aircraft was designed as a single-engine low-wing aircraft with a non-retractable nose wheel landing gear. It was designed for high climbing performance at low speed. However, the special propeller was later replaced by a production model from Hoffmann, which was significantly quieter. The fifth in-house development was the Polyt V , although the Polyt IV never got beyond the construction stage. The aircraft was entered in the aircraft register under OY-DHP ; the first flight took place on April 12, 1970.
