Polyteknisk Flyve group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Polyteknisk Flyve Group (PFG) is a Danish aviation club and aircraft manufacturer. The Polytechnische Fliegergruppe ( German ) is an academic flying group at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Lyngby . The group was founded in 1943.

The association has been flying in Kaldred ( Bregninge Sogn ) since 1961 and trains glider pilots and flight instructors there. As the only in-house design, the Polyt V OY-DHP is currently flown as a tow plane in the club.

history

In the years 1926 to 1936 there was a predecessor club, the Polyteknisk Svæveflyvegruppe . The first gliding flights were made in Denmark in 1927. The aircraft was composed of parts from former military aircraft. Franz Davidsen made 4 flights of about 15 seconds from the cliffs at Raageleje. He had first flight experiences on the Wasserkuppe and in Rossitten .

Even when the PFG was founded on March 30, 1943, Danish gliding was still in its infancy. Since the first aircraft were single-seaters, the flight instructor stood on the ground and gave signals to the student pilot with flags. The trailers with the aircraft were pulled by 8–9 bicycles during World War II .

The club built six Grunau Baby and one DFS Olympia Meise based on third-party designs . The youngest workshop building was built with funds from the AP Møller Foundation.

A pilot made a spectacular glider flight in 1963 from Kaldred to Rønne on the island of Bornholm .

The drafts of the PFG

The drafts carried out by the association include the gliders Polyt I to III and the motorized airplane Polyt V. The idea of the Polyt IV was to develop a glider in which the wings were joined using metal bonding technology. In contrast to the German AK-1 , safety rivets should not be used here. The demanding project turned out to be very tedious and was discontinued in the 1980s.

The hull of a Jantar intended for the Polyt IV was converted into a gliding simulator. In addition, PFG designed and built four tow winches. There were contacts with Idaflieg .
