The PZL Bielsko SZD-41 Jantar ( German  Bernstein ) Standard is a single-seat Polish high-performance glider made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP).

history

The design by Władysław Okarmus was based on the SZD-38 Jantar 1 . The fuselage and tail unit were adopted, the wingspan and water ballast were adapted to the specified requirements of the standard class and the shape on the wing was adapted to the new, lower wing. The sailor was nicknamed "whale" by the pilots because when the ballast tanks were refueled, a characteristic water fountain shot through a vent valve in the middle of the fuselage.

The Jantar Standard was flown in on October 3, 1973 and in 1974 Frantiszek Kepka was able to achieve 3rd place for Poland at the World Cup in Australia. In 1976, the Jantar Standard took 4th, 6th and 18th place during the World Cup in Finland. Between 1975 and 1979 ten SZD-41A were delivered to the GST of the GDR and a short time later Johannes Barwick set a GDR record of 115 km / h on a 100 km triangle.

construction

The SZD-41 is in shells - sandwich construction build and a central tubular steel framework for the transition from the fuselage to the wing and the landing gear holder. The canopy consists of two parts, the rear one being removable. The cantilevered shoulder wing has a two-part, single-spar , ribless wing and a likewise cantilevered T-tail . The main wheel is designed to be retractable and brakable.
