history
Impetus for the development led by Władysław Okarmus were the 1970 in Marfa held XII. World championships in gliding. A parallel design was the SZD-39 Cobra 17 . Adam Zientek made the maiden flight with the first prototype ( SP-2538 ) on December 30, 1969. A second with the registration number SP-2538 flew for the first time on February 25, 1970. In the same year series production began under the designation SZD-36A. The start of the first series Cobra ( SP-2579 ) was carried out by Jerzy Popiel on October 29, 1970. Together with the two prototypes, a total of 290 aircraft were produced. In Marfa, Jan Wróblewski with the SZD-36 was vice world champion in the standard class, Franciszek Kępka took third place.
technical description
The self-supporting shoulder wing is made of wood materials and partly of plastics ( GRP ). The two-part trapezoidal wing with a continuous spar and double Schempp-Hirth airbrakes is made of wood with a plastic coating. The fin of the T-tail is swept, the elevator is designed as a pendulum rudder . The “Cobra” has a retractable, brakable main wheel, which is turned into the fuselage on an axis in the direction of flight, and a sprung tail spur. The landing gear shaft is closed by a one-piece GFP part that partially retracts into the fuselage when the landing gear is extended. The retractable landing gear of the Cobra tends to snap the landing gear back into the fuselage.
