The PZL Bielsko SZD-27 Kormoran is a Polish glider and the first all-metal construction made by SZD .

development

The SZD-27 resulted from a development order from the Polish Aero Club for a two-seater school sailor, which should be suitable for both beginners and advanced training, which is why the design was also designed for aerobatics . The construction plans were carried out in 1961/62 under the direction of Józef Niespał in the metal construction method that had not yet been used by SZD ( Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny , Glider Development Plant ). The construction phase took a relatively long time, which is probably due to the use of the new material, until the prototype, which was later given the registration number SP-2463 , was able to complete its maiden flight on January 2, 1965 with Adam Zientek. Another prototype followed with the registration number SP-2468 , then the order was withdrawn for unknown reasons and further work on the project was discontinued.

The fuselage of the first prototype is exhibited in the Polish Aviation Museum.

construction

The SZD-27 is a self-supporting shoulder - wing aircraft in all-metal half - shell construction with an oval fuselage cross-section. The negative swept wings consist of two parts; the inner surfaces with integrated DFS - air brakes have a laminar and are of rectangular, while the outer surfaces have a trapezoidal shape with the normal profile. The tail unit is conventional and also self-supporting. All surfaces are planked with aluminum sheets. The undercarriage consists of the retractable main wheel at the height of the wing, a skid in front of it and the tail spur.
