Pont de la Margineda
The Pont de la Margineda ( German Bridge of Margineda ) in the district of La Margineda is the oldest bridge in the municipality of Sant Julià de Lòria and also the largest bridge in the entire Principality of Andorra .
The arch bridge , built in the 14th century, is almost ten meters wide, around 33 meters long and spans the Gran Valira river . It is considered an example of the engineering skills of the past centuries. The bridge, which is closed to normal traffic, has been regularly renovated in recent years and is now a pedestrian bridge that connects La Margineda with the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria . Next to the bridge is a sculpture, the work of the Valencian artist Vincente Alfaro , which was erected to commemorate the first Congress of the Catalan Language and Literature in 1906 .
The bridge is protected as a monument under the Andorra Cultural Heritage Law (Llei del patrimoni cultural d'Andorra) of June 12, 2003. A structurally identical smaller arch bridge from the 15th century, the Pont de Sant Antoni de la Grella , is located in La Massana .
