The Ponte del Gran Caso is a Roman bridge over the Torrente Gran Caso two kilometers south of the town of Ascoli Piceno ( central Italy ), it shortened a street already existing in antiquity, which had to overcome a gorge-like incision in the current town of San Pietro.
The building, surrounded by dense vegetation, is about 50 m above a modern successor building on private property and today only serves to support a wooden shed built there. The bridge has a span of 6 m, a width of 3.3 m and is made of travertine . On a bridge ramp there are two relief arches , of which the segment arch-shaped one extends from the floor to half the height of the main arch.
A comparable flood opening can also be found at the Ponte di Pioraco , also in central Italy.
